Overall Product Approach:
Pre-discovery:
- What are our objectives?
- What are the problems that we are facing? (need to create a list of problems. potentialy stack rank them)
- How are people using the product currently?
- Need access to:
- Customers
- Data
- Key stakeholders
- Industry trends
- What metrics are critical to track? (eg LTV, CAC, Rev/customer, contribution margin, etc)
Discovery:
- Ideate different solutions and build prototypes to test
- Answering following qs:
- Will customers buy it?
- Will customers know how to use it?
- Can engineers build this?
- Can the business get behind this?
- 2-3 hours of customer interviews per week should be the norm (not once in a while). Point of customer interviews is to answer:
- Are your customers who you think they are?
- Do they really have the problems you think they have?
- How does the customer solve this problem today?
- What would be required for them to switch?
Two Inconvenient Truths about Product:
- At least half of our product ideas will fail
- The ideas that show potential will require multiple iterations until they become successful
Overall Goal:
